Summer in Mexico City is also the rainy season, however here the rain is met with joy – rain means the air is fresh, less polluted, and it means life, as nature explodes in abundant greens. The rains come on in a flash, and a satisfying torrent descends, propelling people to find shelter and fast. Clusters of random strangers share however-long-it-takes under makeshift cover or will find themselves sequestered in corners of CDMX that perhaps you’ve never noticed before – it makes for interesting moments thats for sure. Also the lighting storms! The are huge, impressive, loud and truly spectacular.
When the heavens are not opening, the days are sunny and warm, and we have really enjoyed being in CDMX for the summer. In fact, the city managed to completely capture our hearts again and may have snared us in for the long term…

A large part of our hearts this summer were also captured by a small fury creature – not really a dog, not a toy but more of a spirit animal – Twiglet, Nick’s dog. We lived with him and also took sole custody of him again for a week when Nick went back to the UK. Twiglet certainly got a lot of air time……

The month of August has always been a celebratory month, with Ana’s and Pippa’s birthday featuring, but this year we added two other dates to celebrate, our legal wedding anniversary and our wedding party anniversary! So we ensured we celebrated each occasion in style, in and out of the city.
For Ana’s birthday, we went for a trip outside the city to Tlaxcala and then Puebla for the night – then returned to celebrate in CDMX at a cantina with some friends.

For Pippa’s birthday, we enjoyed the city for the day – splashing out on an Italian lunch with all the trimmings and then drinks with friends on a rooftop. Then for anniversary we drove 1.5hr south of Mexico City to the beautiful tropical mountainside of Tepoztlán – a blissful retreat.

It is September now, and we had always planned to spend the month of September in Guadalajara, to compare what living there was like compared to Mexico City. Things may have changed with it looking like we are committing to CDMX but we had arranged a place in Guadalajara and we couldn’t stay at Nick’s for September, so that is where we are going next – but only for two weeks.
We have two weeks of creativity in Guadalajara and when we come back to the city, it will be back to school-time/work-time, yes actual, work!
